VOICES FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY

Following the House admonishment resolution directed at Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC) for shouting "you lie"
during the president's healthcare address to congress, a voice from the past has spoken, pronouncing opposition to
the president as "rooted in racism." Jimmy Carter, former peanut farmer, weak sister one-term Democratic
president and international busybody, who is politics' version of the undead, has played the race card again,
and in the cheesiest most dishonorable way imaginable.
According to Carter, those who oppose Obama do so basicically by playing on racially motivated fears of a
black president, rather than because they simply disagree with his policies and tactics. This is a ploy straight
out of the new Democrat playbook which says "facts suspect, argument weak, shout racism." By this reasoning
it would be literally impossible to disagree with or oppose anything Barack Obama does or wants to do without
being a racist, a convenient Catch-22 permitting socialist Democrats to impose their will on America willy-milly.
The irony is that by demonstrating how stupid they think the rest of us are, they have exposed how stupid they
are, because an independent minded, thinking electorate will nevr accept such a preposterous broad brush
indictment, nor allow reverse racial bigotry to trump facts and reason.
By accusing dissident Americans of being racists, Carter has lowered the political debate to a sub-gutter
level, done a massive disservice to the just crusade for racial understanding and equality, embarrassed his
party and revealed himself as a meddling, senile nitwit who is not to be taken seriously. Considering
himself somehow an "international emissary of peace," Carter has meddled in the foreign policy of nearly
every administration since American voters overwhelmingly expelled him from office. Himself accused
of being an anit-semite, Carter's latest insane gambit has been to lobby the Obama administration to remove
bus-bombing, civilian-maiming, rocket=firing Hamas, itself a vehemently RACIST organization, from the
list of terrorist groups, stating that no peace process can go forward in the Middle East that does not
include them. Go figure!
Jimmy Carter is living proof that politics breeds liars. Can one be "admonished" for calling an ex=president
a liar? In any case, Carter did more to bring disrespect to his office than any president before him. Indecisive
and ineffectual, he so repulsed voters that even running as an incumbent he was slaughtered in the subsequent
election by his opponent. So, in the serious debate that rages in America today, when voices from the
peanut gallery shout stupidity, unproveable conspiracy theories and moronic diatribes contrived to lift a
failing president above criticism, there is only one thing to do. Consider the source!

GOOD MORNING AMERICA!

All over the country in cities, towns, hamlets, villages and rural areas the lights

are coming on as Americans realize, to their dismay, what they have done in electing

a professional politician devoid of practical wisdom and a Democratic congressional

"super majority." The popular term is "buyer's remorse," but unfortunately there are no

"lemon laws" to protect us from this blunder. Alas, as the cartoon character would have

it, "we have met the enemy and he is US."

Weary of war and corruption in government, and angered by Republicans who refused

to honor their own principles, the country rushed headlong into the waiting arms of a

glib talking, high tech, race-baiting, charismatic rock star politican with zero experience

in governing and a virulent left-wing agenda. Crossover Republicans and Independents

joined hands to vote for "change we need," only to find out that the change the Democrats

had in mind wasn't quite the one mainstream America signed on for. So we were stupid!

Hoping that under the leadership of a fresh face who promised to "govern from the

center," the Democratic "leopard" would, in fact, change its spots, we decided to roll

the dice. We could have gotten better odds in Vegas.

Just a few months down this faux "yellow brck road" we have learned with horror

just what Oz(bama) has in mind for us. Multi-trillion dollar deficits, government

ownership of banks, automakers, financial services companies and insurance companies,

projected tax rates topping the nation's all-time highs, energy rationing and a

cap-and-trade system that amounts to an energy tax that will be the largest single

tax increase in American history are just the tip of the iceberg. The discrediting of the

Central Intelligence Agency, our first line of defense against terrorism, the importation

of deadly terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to American soil, government funded

abortion on demand, rampant, out-of-control government borroweing and spending

and government funded healthcare that is so embarrassingly poor that Democrats

in congress won't even sign onto abill that would force them to purchase it virtually

guarantee unsustainable future deficits and doom our posterity to a world in

which they will likely have to work for 35 cents on the dollar because the

government will have to take the rest in order to stay afloat.

Add to that a president who specializes in America-bashing international apology

tours, who grovels before foreign leaders, who publicly disavows the nation's

Christian heritage and who openly promises homosexual activists, "I will be your

champion." Now, search your heart and look me in the eye. Is THAT the change

you can believe in? Hmmm.

But in 2010 and 2012 we have the chance to fix this, if there's anything left to

fix. It must be done at the ballot box, and if half of all registered voters continue

sitting home eating bon bons while the ACORN army is bussed to the polls with

strict instructions to vote Democrat, if misty-eyed centrist Republicans and

independents continue to embrace the illusion that Obama will lead us to Utopia

and Democrats will develop fiscal responsibility, or that the "culture of corruption"

that has now devolved into a cesspool will somehow right itself, then it will never

happen. And after two terms of this the damage may well be irreversible.

Face the fact! The silent majority absolutely must find a voice and speak with

deafening certainty to sweep every deficit spending, welfare-doling, tax hiking,

abortionizing, CIA slandering, America bashing, socialist loving, healtchcare

controlling, bail-out funding, pork barrel piling, debate squelching Democrat

out of office. Otherwise we might as well "take off and nuke the site from

orbit. It's the only way." (From Aliens).

THE SPECTER OF CHANGE

All day the blogs and cable news outlets have been abuzz about the defection of

Pennsylvanian Senator Arlen Specter from the Republican party to become a Democrat

and the potential 60th vote in a filibuster-proof majority. While conservatives vilified

him as a traitor, Democrats rolled out the red carpet, including a welcoming call from

the president himself. Is all now lost for the Republican party? What does it all mean

for American politics?

Specter's sickly protests to the contrary, his move reflects no shift either in his own

ideology or that of the Republican party. It is about -- and ONLY about -- his realization

that he had no chance of being re-elected in Pennsylvania as a Republican. He only

narrowly won his last primary against Pat Toomey, a fiscal conservative, and lost

whatever remaining Republican capital he had by votingwfith Democrats on the

Porkulus spending bill. He is banking on the (estimated) 200,000 Pennsylvania

Democrats who flipped to Obama in the presidential election continuing to vote

Democratic in the 2010 primary. That, in itself is a substantial gamble, given the

disconnect betwee Obama's personal popularity and the dwindling ratings of his

policy initiatives. It also fails to take into account the "Bush rejection" factior

that no doubt drove many voters in the presidential election, but may not drive

them in the mid-terms, particularly when the consequences of some of the Obama

policies begin to play out. We'll see.

On the shorter term, it is doubtful if Specter, a centrist at heart, will vote a straight

party line with the Democrats. He is already on record as opposing Obama's nominee

for deputy attorney general, the union's card check bill and seems to have significant

reservations about cap-and-trade. He will doubtless receive a lot of pressure, from

party leadership as well as from the unions in Pennsylvania, but the odds are he'll

continue to be a centrist maverick. Changing parties may not change the man, provided

Republicans do not treat him as such a pariah that they drive him into the Democratic

column on vote after vote.

Juan William of National Public Radar, smilingly pronounced Specter's move as

another nail in the coffin of the Republican party which, he announced gleefully,

is now a southern party of old white men. I guess the partisan Mr. Williams

doesn't read the thousands of rightist blogs, consider the Young Republicans viable,

or even consider that the Obama administration might, in very short order, lead the

country tio ruin. He points out correctly that in polls 46% of Americans admit to

being Democrats, whil only 28% favor the GOP. Taken at face values those numbers

may be daunting, but they disregard the tendency of Democratic voters to stay at

when they think everything is under control, the oft changing vote swings of the

independents who really decide elections and the ability of the Republicans to

accomplish a grass-roots turnout of the 52% of registered voters in the last

election. This "Silent Majority" is the sleeping giant that will likely be aroused

by the oppression of cap-and-trade and the prospect of rationed healthcare. When

the Repuublicans swept into power in the eary 90's on the "Clinton disgust" factor

the Democratic party was also pronounced dead. Williams has simply engaged in

wishful partisan thinking, disguised as news commentary, that he may well live to

eat.

But, as Specter himself sheepishly confessed before the TV cameras, his prospects

in the Pennsylvania Republican primary were bleak, at best. And that reveals what's

really wrong with American politics. If Specter had experienced an epiphany revealing

Barack Obama's Messishship, we could understand. He didn't! If he had felt so strongly

that the Democrats were right on one or two critical issues, it might be easier to cut

him some slack. He doesn't. Convicted by his own words, Specter is guilty of placing

his own re-election, the retention of his own personal power above party, idelology

and yes, even his duty to Pennsylvania voters. The Democrats will try their best to

reward such spinelessness and banal values. But the Pennsylvania electorate may not.

BELTWAY BETRAYAL

Equating his recent electoral plurality with a mandate for big government that would

have  made his Democratic predecessors blush, Barack Obama has already begun a

headlong retreat from many of his high-sounding campaign promises. At this rate

he'll make George W. Bush look like "Honest Abe" Lincoln, or George Washington

who could not "tell a lie."

No more Washington insiders he promised, just months before nominating a cabinet

chock full of them. No more pet spending projects, he said. Yet in a speech earlier

today he said, "Of course we're going to have pet projects." Transparency, accountability

and integrity, he trumpeted. But that was before his plum nominees turned out to be

tax cheats or under grand jury investigation. "We'll create jobs," he said. And yet his

pork-riddled "stimulus pacakage" devotes billions to pet projects that create no jobs at

all. How many new jobs will the honey bee insurance provision create, or the $88 billion

for state Medicaid, or building new ATV trails, or funding the conversion of analog TVs

to digital? And how can anyone justify the provision that will create 388 new jobs at the

State Department at a cost of $1.38 million per job.

Obama seems to have confused his personal popularity with the profligacy of his

party, believing that the electoral endorsement of one signals blanket consent for the

other. But while his own popularity remains high, recent polls show that a majority

of Americans oppose the gigantic stimulus being proposed, and many oppose any

stimulus at all. A politician can win an election -- even do so by a convincing margin --

but that does not imply that either he or his party have a right to spend the nation into

bankruptcy in wanton disregard of the more adult concerns of citizens.

He can even tell lies -- and early performance suggests that Obama has concocted

some whoppers. But in the end it will be difficult for him to escape the truth that

very little has changed in Washington, the so-called stimulus package will create

few jobs, the country will never be able to afford universal healthcare, and he and

his spendthrift party will have mortgaged the futures not only of our children, but also

our grandchildren. He talked a good game, for sure. But he's not delivering the

goods. Who would ever have thought that a legacy of unpaid taxes would QUALIFY

one for a cabinet position? Give America a break, Mr. Presodent.
