THE CAMEL'S NOSE SYNDROME

Few have not heard the story about the desert trader who bedded down in his
tent  to ride out a sandstorm, only to be cajoled by his camel regarding the unequal
accommodations. Feeling badly for the beast, the trader invited him to put his nose
just under the flap of the tent and out of the howling maelstrom. Presently, the
camel slid his entire head and forequarter inside, followed shortly by his hump and
then his hindquarters, leaving almost no room for the anguished trader.
This was a political parable, and its implication is clear. Be careful what (or whom)
you allow to get a foothold, or before long they'll own the whole enchilada. Creeping
socialism a la Barack Obama is precisely such a "camel," and it has its slobbering
snout under the flap of almost every "tent" in America.
Many objected to TARP, but feared the fallout from failing to approve it. Then came
Porkulus. GM became Chrysler, Chrysler became Bank of America and Bank of
America became AIG. The syndrome begins from legitimate concern, but then
quickly overreaches to the point of stifling, absolute control.
Take the present dilemma over financial reform. Few doubt, in the wake of the
costly Wall Street meltdown, that additional regulation is needed. So taking that
premise, the Obama cronies have proposed a system of almost absolute government
control, along with a structure sure to guarantee unending government bailouts of
the financial sector, something Americans have firmly stated that they do not want.
Take the little they' concede, establish a beach head, and then grab a whole lot
more. That's how it works.
America cannot be wholly converted to a socialist republic in a day, or even in
one presidential term. People here still have some say in their own destiny. So Obama
will take what he can get now. But he'll soon be back for more, until he has fulfilled
his promise to "fundamentally transform" America from a free market nation with
individual freedoms to an entitlement ridden, government dominated oligarchy with
the socialist elite at the top of the pyramid.
November is not soon enough to stop this train. Republicans must stand up now
and resist cap-and-tax energy policy, amnesty for illegal aliens (whom the Democrats
will quickly recruit as voters), implementation of Obamacare, bloated budgets.
financial reform that would allow an infnity of government bailouts of institutions
deemed too big to fail and the armada of ultra-liberal jurists nominated by the chosen
one to the courts. The time to kepp this camel out it now, not 2012. The question is
will the GOP have the chops to say "No More?"
